Onion Layers
Onion Layers
A collection of images that have been captured over a decade of Barry Island.
From the eBook forward:
An onion is a complex organic structure. Left alone it’s unassuming and a beautiful item to behold. Once peeled, layer after layer it starts to sting your senses and you realise, that once beautiful item holds a secret. The more layers you peel, the worse the stinging, until you’ve peeled everything and only then do you realise, there is nothing. Welcome to Barry Island.
Barry Island in the summer time is a mecca to tourists and locals alike. Often explored on a surface layer only, we as consumers to the space are swept up in the romanticism we hold of the Great British seaside, often viewing the area with rose tinted glasses as we enjoy the sand, sea and sun with quintessential fish and chips, candy floss, arcades and the fun fair. Here lies the onion, unpeeled its an unassuming beautiful organic structure.
As you start to look deeper, the cracks start to show, behind the ‘face’ of the island you start to see what’s really here. The more you look, the worse it becomes and the more your senses are stinged.
This eBook takes you through a journey, from surface layer quintessential seaside fun and past times to the more grubbier side that Barry Island has to offer.
